Third Championship for Forsberg

Under the smoke and lights of Irwindale Speedway in California, Chris Forsberg became the first three-time Formula Drift World Champion. This achievement comes after a record-setting season, with Forsberg taking six consecutive podiums in his Nissan 370Z.

While Forsberg led the championship standings over 2015 Champion Fredric Aasbo coming into the deciding weekend at Irwindale Speedway, the Maryland native needed a strong performance to seal the deal. Spirits were high as Forsberg's 1,000-hp VK56-powered 370Z wailed in a cloud of smoke against underdog Pat Mordaunt. That all came to a grinding halt when a slight miscalculation sent Forsberg's car careening into the wall. The night was over for Forsberg after only one battle of the Top 16 – potentially disastrous consequences for the 2016 Championship.

With Aasbo facing seasoned veteran Matt Field, Forsberg and team watched intently from the sidelines. An unforced error from Aasbo caused his car to tap Fields' and left Forsberg's team feeling hopeful, until Field's car had a mechanical issue at the end of his run. Using every second of the five-minute "Competition Time Out," Fields' crew fixed the car and got out to the start line just in time.

With a strong performance on his second pass, Field took the battle, sending Aasbo out of competition and officially crowning Forsberg as the 2016 Formula Drift World Champion.

"It's an amazing feeling to win the championship three times now, and also break our 2014 podium record," said Forsberg. "It just goes to show that consistency pays off. We may not have won a round this year, but we won the Championship, and that is our goal every year."

Forsberg credits his strong consistent performance to his team and the all-Nissan platform they have worked to master.

"The VK56 is just an insane engine," said Forsberg. "Our fully developed 370Z chassis is incredibly powerful and reliable. It's the reliability that it takes to win a Championship."

Forsberg looks forward to chasing a fourth title in the 2017 Formula Drift Season that kicks off in Long Beach next spring.

Malle Expedition Collection

‘Design, Destroy, Redesign & Deliver’ was the working motto for the latest collection.

On the 27th of July, 2015 the Malle team left New York on British motorcycles, venturing 10,000 miles across the North American landscape with 12 new designs in hand. Over 37 days they tested their newest pieces of luggage, apparel and adventure accessories, in deserts, rainforest’s, torrential rain, tornadoes, snow, hail, crossing 14,000ft mountain passes and beyond.

Our hypothesis was that a bag, tool, or piece of apparel may seem perfect and comfortable after an hour or so, but how will it feel and perform after 300+ hours of continual/hard use. We dove into extreme weather conditions with these designs and learnt first hand how each design performed. Upon our return to our London studio we set about putting these learnings into practice and re-designed each piece, based on our findings and experience.

The Malle‘Expedition Collection’ - 12 items of luggage and adventure accessories; from backpacks and duffel’s, to map cases, weekender’s, apparel, digital tool pouches and shoulder bags. Each piece is handcrafted in our London workshop from a lightweight navy blue oiled cotton made in our mill in Scotland, thick black bridle leather, solid welded brass hardware and a ‘postbox red’ organic cotton interior. Each of these high end materials were selected for their strength, durability, weight and unique luxurious feel - these pieces are designed to go the distance and get you home again.

The initial designs were tested on motorcycles for the simple reason, that this transportation method is the most exposed to the elements (and often the most fun). If a Malle performs well on this transportation mode, it will work perfectly when strapped to a bicycle, sports car, 4X4, or slung over the shoulder on the morning commute, in the London rain.

The ‘Expedition Collection’ is available at:

Barneys - New York
Deus Ex Machina - Los Angeles
The Bike Shed - London

Ford 1-2 in Japan

The WEC-entered Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs found their spiritual home in Japan today, taking both first and second place at the ‘6 Hours of Fuji’. The two Ford GTs battled hard throughout the race, held in the foothills of the magnificent Mt. Fuji, not giving an inch of tarmac to each other during six hours of flat out racing.
This is the first win for the WEC-entered team, which is headed by Team Principal George Howard-Chappell who said: “This is a fabulous result after quite a long dry spell so to then get a 1-2 is a great tribute to the hard work of all four drivers, the team and to the support we receive from the Ford team around the world. It’s a great result, a great lift and it helps us in the championship. We can now go to Shanghai and Bahrain hoping to repeat the success.”
Both Ford GTs started the race from the front row of the GTE grid after taking pole position (#66) and second place (#67) in yesterday’s qualifying session but it was Harry Tincknell in the #67 Ford GT who took the lead at the start of today’s six-hour race.

“I knew that the first corner would be vital, even though it was a six-hour race,” said Tincknell. “I was pleased that I managed to pass Olivier (Pla) on the inside going into Turn One, then once the race settled down we maintained a very even pace between the two Ford GTs.”
After a clean start the Ford GTs ran in formation as they steadily built up a gap to the Ferrari in third place. After a fundamentally trouble-free first half, Tincknell took a hit from a GTE Am class Porsche, which temporarily handed the race lead to Pla in the #66 Ford GT.  That and a small spin for Pla, as he chased the #67 car in the later stages of the race, were the only anxious moments for the team.  It was a hard-fought, flat-out, six-hour dash to the chequered flag and Ford came out on top!
“Today’s result was great for Ford, for the team, for Multimatic and for Chip Ganassi,” said Priaulx. “It’s a young team, it’s a new team and today they were faultless with the pit stops. It was a tough race as we never had a big gap to the #66 car. Every lap of the race felt like a qualifying lap. We made no mistakes and just stroked the car home. The pit stops were brilliant, Harry (Tincknell) did a great job and I’m delighted we finally got our first win. We’ve had some really good performances this year but we haven’t had the result we all deserve. This one is for the team.”
“Your first win for a manufacturer is always special but with everything we’ve been through this season it’s a massive relief,” added Tincknell. “We’ve pushed like hell at every race this year and it just hasn’t gone our way for a number of reasons. I felt nervous going into the race as I knew this was our big opportunity and I had to grab it with both hands. To come away with the win is amazing but it was hard work! We had to push all the way through, leaving nothing in reserve so we will enjoy this moment.”
After taking pole position yesterday the drivers of the #66 Ford GT were fired up for this race but the result was decided at the first corner.
“It wasn’t an easy one today,” said Pla. “For some reason my line didn’t go as fast as the right-hand line so I lost the advantage of pole position at the first corner. From then on we were so evenly matched it was hard to pass the other car. I lost a lot of time behind an Aston Martin in my last stint and I had to push so hard to catch up I had a small spin. Well done to the team, to the guys in #67. Everyone did a perfect job.”
“A 1-2 finish is great for Ford, great for the whole team,” said Mücke. “It was a long time coming. It was one of those races where you are doing qualifying lap after qualifying lap. There was no room for error, no lifting, just pushing hard. Unfortunately we were unlucky at the start but everything was perfect after that and it was a great job from everyone.”
Just two races remain on the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship schedule: Shanghai and Bahrain. Ford Chip Ganassi Racing will continue to fight until the final chequered flag in Bahrain.

There is something cool about a small town car show, on my road trip through Central Texas last week, I happened upon the city of Clifton's annual FallFest. Part of FallFest is a car show that was impressive for a town of less then 3,500 people. From classic restorations to complete restomods there was something for everyone.

Monte Carlo Rally 2017

The town of Paisley has once again been confirmed as the sole UK start point for the 2017 historic rally run to Monte Carlo.
It’ll be the fourth time the town – which is bidding to be the 2021 UK City of Culture – will be the only British start point out of seven European cities for a range of historic cars to make the 1300 mile trip to the South of France.
Close to a hundred cars are expected to leave the start ramp outside Paisley Abbey at 6pm on Wednesday January 25th in three separate categories.
The Historique class is being run for the 20th year and is restricted to car models which competed in the Monte Carlo Rallies between 1955 and 1980. It will run over eight days on open public roads with the cars and crews having undertaken a series of fourteen demanding test stages in the mountains of southern France.
The Classique event is for older cars from as early as 1911 to 1980 and follows the same route to Monte Carlo but does not include any test stages, the goal simply being to finish in Monte Carlo after checking in at a series of control points on the way.
Once again the event will feature the popular Monte Heritage Runs which will follow on from the full-scale events and will take in a series of short classic routes in Scotland.

In January this year a crowd of more than 10,000 gathered in the centre of Paisley with the magnificent backdrop of the Abbey to wave off the crews in a party atmosphere with lights, music, street food and fireworks…..and working with staff from Renfrewshire Council and volunteers from many motorsport clubs in Scotland the organisers are confident of making the start even bigger and better next year.
The event was officially launched this morning by Douglas Anderson, the UK co-ordinator and the man responsible for bringing the Monte back to Scotland in 2011.
He believes the 2017 start will be the best yet.
He said: “The Paisley Abbey Start will flash round the world on the evening of 25th January 2017.  It is universally acknowledged as the best start in Europe and with the help of the good folk of Paisley who come out in their thousands to cheer the competitors on their way, we will keep it that way.”
Also there was one of the entrants in the 2017 event, Andrew Goodfellow from Dundee and co-driver, his brother-in-law Derek Coghill and their 1930 Austin 7 Ulster 2-seater sports which will – hopefully – complete the drive to Monte Carlo.
Said Andrew: “What a fantastic opportunity this is to take part in this historic event and were both totally confident that we and the car will make the 1300 miles. We’ve been prepping the car over the past month with still lots more to do to it to ensure everything is in top condition before we set off. The only concern is the very strong likelihood of snow while driving through the Alps.”
Their drive will also raise funds for SAMH, the Scottish Association of Mental Health.
The event is being supported by Renfrewshire Council. Leader Mark Macmillan said: "We are delighted to be hosting the only UK start leg of the Monte Carlo Classic Rally here in Paisley again in 2017, for the fourth year in row.
"Next year we will be submitting the town's bid for UK City of Culture 2021, and to have this prestigious and truly international event  in the town centre just helps cement Paisley's status as a key destination on Scotland's map of major events.
"The people of Renfrewshire and beyond have always turned out in huge numbers to wave the cars off against the striking historic backdrop of Paisley Town Hall and Abbey, and I am sure they will be as excited as we are to welcome the event back."
Giving his backing to the event is Scotland’s latest motorsport champion, Gordon Shedden, who won the British Touring Car Championship for the third time earlier this month.
He said: “Scotland has such a proud history in motorsport and it’s great to see Paisley as the only UK start point for this classic event. The Honda Civic Type R in which I compete is the latest example of car technology but I love getting behind the wheel of something from the past. I wish everyone taking part the very best of success…..and an enjoyable and safe drive to Monte Carlo.”

I was invited to a preview of the new Petersen Museum exhibit The Art of Bugatti, last night in Los Angeles. It was an exciting event and featured some of the most important cars in Bugatti's history, as well as the artwork and furniture designed by members of the Bugatti family. It was a great event and you can check out more info in the official release below.

Official Release:

The Petersen Automotive Museum is pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibition, The Art of Bugatti. The exhibition features a rare assemblage of Bugatti family artwork and Bugatti automobiles including rare Atlantic and Royale models, as well as the fastest production super sports car ever built, the new Bugatti Chiron. The exhibit is located in the Mullin Grand Salon on the museum's first floor and will run through the fall of 2017.

"The work of the Bugatti family has become a great passion of mine over the years," said Peter Mullin, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Petersen Automotive Museum. "They are one of the greatest art dynasties of the 20th century and yet many people are only familiar with their automotive works. The purpose of this exhibit is to help the public see how four generations of one family have been creating beauty in different ways – furniture, sculpture, paintings, writings and automobiles. The mediums differ but their passion and aesthetic is constant."

"This is the most significant Bugatti exhibition ever mounted. It is a great honor for us and we would like to thank the Petersen Automotive Museum, and Peter Mullin in particular, for making this possible”, said Stefan Brungs, Member of the Board of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. for Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at the opening event. “No other automotive manufacturer could display the history of the brand with sculptures, furniture, paintings and many other objects of decorative art in addition to a host of dazzling automotive masterpieces, which is crowned by Bugatti’s latest creation, the new Chiron. The Art of Bugatti is celebrating the roots, the past, the presence and the future of this unique brand."

The Art of Bugatti exhibit gives museum-goers an inside look at the history of the Bugatti family beginning with its patriarch, Carlo Bugatti, and his unique path through the arts which included a mastery of architecture, painting, Art Nouveau furniture design and silversmithing. It then goes into great detail on the work of his sons, sculptor Rembrandt and carmaker Ettore Bugatti, as well as Ettore’s children and studies the influence of Rembrandt’s animal-life sculptures on his brother Ettore’s art-deco era automotive designs, both of which incorporate the Fibonacci sequence, or "golden mean." Art of Bugatti also offers a history of the family itself, including correspondence and historical artifacts.

The vehicles on display include the 1925 Bugatti Type 35C Grand Prix, a 1939 Bugatti Type 44 Fiacre, a 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Cabriolet, a 1931 Bugatti Type 50 S, a 1931 Bugatti Type 54, a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Supersport, one of four 1935 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantics, 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Aravis by Gangloff, a 1939 Bugatti Type 57C by Vanvooren, a 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante by Gangloff, 1939/49 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, and the last Bugatti overseen by members of the family, the 1951 Bugatti Type 101C. Also on display are the extremely rare 1994 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport Le Mans and the aforementioned Chiron, which will be on display until early November.

Guests will learn of the Bugatti family’s great triumphs and many tragedies beginning with the death of Rembrandt as well as the untimely death of Ettore’s son Jean Bugatti. In addition to the vehicles, the exhibit includes paintings, sculpture, writings, furniture and other Bugatti family designs.

The Art of Bugatti exhibition represents a once in a lifetime opportunity for museum guests to experience the Bugatti family in all their splendor and to see an unprecedented number of their beautiful automobiles in one place, displayed as they should be, as art. Kyoto Nights

Kyoto is an amazing city, earlier this year I had the opportunity to partner with Sony to travel and take pictures with their new Xperia X-Performance Smart Phone. I found myself in the city of Kyoto, via the slow train that wound its way through the Japanese countryside. Arriving in Kyoto I checked into the Piece Hostel Sanjo and made my way out to find something to eat. Moshi is the first stop, then on to a full dinner.

The streets of Kyoto were especially busy that night, due to an annual festival that had closed down the main road so local men could carry a giant torch in a traditional ceremony. While it was busy, it felts far different than Tokyo. People were friendlier, the city is filled with amazing architecture, and many women wore brightly colored yukata which only added to the ambiance. It is a community of craftsmen and artists who take great pride in whatever their craft may be.

The riverwalk is crowded with locals enjoying the summer night air on the large decks that extend from the restaurants along the as teenagers couple and slink away into the darkness. A large salamander has crawled from the river and become the top attractions for tourists and locals alike, it eventually made its way back to the river.

I found a place along the bank to sit and take in the scene while I drank my Red Bull and watch as the restaurants begin to close up, traffic dies down as people leave the city center. Teens in disheveled clothing start to reappear as the noise from the festival fades. I take that as my cue to head back to the hostel, walking back the soundtrack in my head is Air's Alone In Kyoto, it syncs up well with the pace of the city.

My brand Morgan's & Phillip's has been working with Gulf Oil for a few years now, this fall we are excited to release this limited edition Mechanics Jacket. Working with workwear specialist Red Cap we have created our own interpretation of the jacket that would have been worn by the pit crew in the iconic film Le Mans.

The number one question we get is what does the patch say Sweden instead of USA. That is because, in the film Le Mans, Steve McQueen's blue rain jacket had a patch that said "Team Gulf Sweden" just like this one.

The first run of just 24 jackets is available for $60 including shipping in the USA.

El Mirage with Anemone Jones

by Mike Satterfield

El Mirage is a magical place, several times a year the dusty nearly flat dry lakebed is transformed into one of the fastest places on earth. Teams from mostly western states make their way to log times with the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA), from classic hot rods reliving the glory days of speed to modern streamliners that look more like fighter jets than cars, El Mirage hosts them all, with speeds reaching over 200mph.

Spectators from around the world come to witness it for themselves, the dust, noise, and thrills of man and machine at the ragged edge. Actress and model Anemone Jones had never been to El Mirage but had been wanting to visit the otherworldly lakebed since moving to the LA area.

So I loaded up the Mustang, picked her up, and we headed out to one of the few land speed tracks left. Arriving early on a Sunday morning the dust limited visibility to just a few feet in some sections, when you are driving around El Mirage you have to be on the look out for other cars, motorcycles, and even small aircraft. As you drive, it seems like the lakebed goes on forever until the dust settles and in the distance, you can see the staging lanes and pits.

The land speed racing community is small so I see many of the same cars, racers, and spectators from my previous trips to the lake. But at El Mirage the weather is ever changing from dark clouds and wind whipped dust clouds to blue skies and claim breezes in a matter of minutes. But the weather doesn't phase the racers and with regularity, the silence of the lake is shattered by the roar of a racer chasing a new record.

If you would like to plan your own trip to El Mirage or Bonneville visit the SCTA official website HERE to see the current schedule of races. Enjoy the photos below and for more from Anemone follow her on Instagram @anemonejones

Nürburgring Camaro ZL1

Chevrolet today unleashed a time-attack video of the 2017 Camaro ZL1 lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a blistering 7:29.60. The new ZL1’s lap time is 11.67 seconds quicker than the previous ZL1’s fast lap.

“To be almost 12 seconds quicker than the 5th-Generation ZL1 is a testament to the advanced design and technology of the new ZL1,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “From the improved aerodynamics, mass reduction and 650-horsepower LT4 to the Magnetic Ride Control, electronic limited-slip differential and Custom Launch Control, the ZL1 was designed to take on the world’s most challenging track, making it right at home on any track, road or drag strip anywhere.”

The only changes made to the ZL1 were the installation of data acquisition equipment, a roll hoop and Sparco racing seats with six-point harnesses. Otherwise, the car was production stock and included the following:

6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V-8 making 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque
All-new 10R90 10-speed automatic transmission (set to Track mode to enable Performance Algorithm Shift calibration, providing optimal gear selection without the need to manually select gears)

FE4 Suspension with Magnetic Ride Control
Performance Traction Management
Forged 20-inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires
Brembo brakes with front 15.4-inch rotors and six-piston calipers and rear 14.4-inch rotors and four-piston calipers
Lift-reducing front fascia elements with cooling ducts and Chevrolet “flowtie”
Full underbody shielding
ZL1-specific rear spoiler and diffuser
11 heat exchangers

“Many fast laps around the Nordschleife are dramatic, with lots of oversteer and steering input,” said Drew Cattell, Camaro ride and handling engineer and driver of the hot lap. “Not so with the ZL1, which is extremely planted and stable, almost calm. With Magnetic Ride and great overall chassis balance, the ZL1 is all about being inch perfect at every turn and carrying a lot of speed.”

Felipe Massa to Join ROC

Brazilian Formula 1 racer Felipe Massa has joined the stunning field of driving stars who will compete at the first Race Of Champions on American soil – inside Miami’s Marlins Park on January 21-22, 2017.

WATCH THE ROC MIAMI TRAILER

Massa came closer to being crowned F1 world champion than anyone when he lost to Lewis Hamilton at the very last corner of his home grand prix at Interlagos in 2008. The Brazilian’s dignity in defeat won many admirers, as did his determined recovery from a head injury sustained during the Hungarian Grand Prix the following year.

Since his return to the cockpit Massa has continued to rack up strong performances, most recently with Williams Martini Racing. In a career spanning 14 seasons he has collected 11 grand prix wins and over 40 podiums. He has announced his intention to retire at the end of this season after he competes in his 250th and final grand prix in Abu Dhabi. That will not be his final competitive appearance, however – and race fans from all over the world now have a chance to see him in action at ROC Miami.

In January Massa has the chance to take on many of the world’s greatest drivers in equal machinery at his fourth visit to the Race Of Champions. On his 2004 debut at the Stade de France in Paris he partnered Tony Kanaan to the ROC Nations Cup semi-finals for Team Brazil. Massa returned to Paris the following year and also raced last November in London’s Olympic Stadium (pictured below).

Massa said: “It’s a fantastic pleasure for me to participate in the Race Of Champions for another year. The event is a big challenge and it’s a great idea to have a race with the best drivers from all the different motor sport categories. I look forward to meeting up with my old friend and fellow countryman Tony Kanaan. In 2004 in Paris we made up a very good combination: he beat Sébastien Loeb and I beat Michael Schumacher until we were both given penalties for touching the guard rails too much…

“The atmosphere is special at the Race Of Champions too: you’re in the middle of the grandstands so you can hear all the fans and they can see all the corners. It’s a great feeling and great enjoyment for everyone. Even better it’s in Miami, which is one of my favourite places and somewhere I’ve always enjoyed going for holidays. So it’s a perfect combination and I’m really looking forward to it, especially to starting my new life after retirement!”
Massa and Kanaan join a star-studded ROC Miami field that features many of the biggest names in world motor sport. Confirmed racers include four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, ‘Mr Le Mans’ Tom Kristensen, Indianapolis 500 winners Juan Pablo Montoya and Ryan Hunter-Reay, action sports legend Travis Pastrana, NASCAR champion Kurt Busch and reigning World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg. More big names will be announced in the run-up to January’s event.

The Race Of Champions is an annual contest which has been held for over 25 years. It brings together some of the world’s greatest drivers from motor sport’s major disciplines – including Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, Le Mans, MotoGP, World Rally and action sports – and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery. All the racing takes place in a stunning range of superfast cars.

The ROC event is run over two days: first comes the Race Of Champions itself (on Saturday, January 21) featuring a flat-out battle for individual glory. Then on Sunday, January 22 comes the ROC Nations Cup when drivers pair up in teams based on nationality to bid for the title of ‘World’s Fastest Nation’. In 2017, this will see America take on the rest of the world in a special contest in celebration of the host venue.

In recent years, ROC has visited the Stade de France in Paris (2004-2006), London’s Wembley Stadium (2007-2008), the ‘Bird’s Nest’ Olympic Stadium in Beijing (2009), Düsseldorf’s Esprit Arena (2010-2011), the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok (2012), Bushy Park Barbados (2014) and London’s former Olympic Stadium (2015).

Now the event is heading to the United States for the first time to soak up the heat of Miami. Florida’s sports fans will have a chance to watch the speediest action Marlins Park has ever seen as many of the world’s greatest drivers push to the absolute limit on a specially-designed racing track winding its way around the infield and outfield.

But that’s not all. The Race Of Champions has non-stop action from start to finish – featuring stunt shows on four wheels and two wheels plus DJs, cheerleaders and plenty of other entertainment to keep race fans on the edge of their seats.

ROC president Fredrik Johnsson said: “We are thrilled that Felipe will be joining us at the Race Of Champions in Miami. He has raced at the highest level for over 15 years and he deserves to revel in his last few grands prix ahead of his Formula 1 retirement later this year. During his time in F1 he has built up a fan base all over the world and now we hope to see many of his fans at Marlins Park in January to give him a worthy send-off. He will doubtless be keen to show he still has the pace to take on the best.”

Tickets for ROC Miami are now available via www.raceofchampions.com. SEMA Teaser from Mazda

$

Always mixing performance and polish, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) is offering a glimpse of its 2016 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) concept cars ahead of their formal debut. Borrowing style and speed from the Mazda MX-5 Global Cup racecar, as well as elevating Mazda’s iconic and lightweight sports car with premium details, are the MX-5 Speedster and MX-5 RF Kuro concepts.

Mazda first introduced the MX-5 Speedster to the world at the 2015 SEMA show, taking the base car’s lightweight ethos to a new level. For this year’s show, Mazda’s design team took a big step forward, creating the Evolution, painted White Ether, taking the concept a step further with more than 100 lbs. removed from last year. Now just under 2,000 lbs., MX-5 Speedster Evolution is approximately 350 lbs. lighter than a stock MX-5 soft top.

Mazda also is displaying the MX-5 RF Kuro concept, based on the 2017 MX-5 Retractable Fastback that will be on sale early next year. MX-5 RF Kuro is painted in a semi-matte metallic concept color developed in-house called “Kuro,” which means “charcoal” in Japanese. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars today unveiled its first ever ‘Rolls-Royce Boutique’, a highly progressive new concept in luxury, in Dubai, UAE. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, presided at the official inauguration ceremony, alongside officials from AGMC, the sole and authorised representative for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates of the UAE.

The new space speaks of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to effortlessly integrating itself into the lifestyles of its patrons. The location, at the centre of Dubai’s City Walk, a globally recognised luxury and hospitality hot-spot, therefore boldly counters traditional automotive thinking in placing the house within a centre of fine fashion, art and cuisine that Rolls-Royce customers frequent.

The permanent Boutique has been created in the same spirit as the marque’s highly successful Summer Studio in Porto Cervo, Sardinia which has rapidly established itself as a celebrated centre of ‘true luxury’ in one of the world’s most exclusive enclaves. The Boutique therefore blends spaces that bring to life the spirit of the marque’s Centre of Excellence in Goodwood, England with a vibrant, social atmosphere. The Boutique is set to become a place to see and be seen for the region’s most discerning and eminent patrons of luxury.

This is achieved through a curated series of experiential areas including: an Inspiration Studio, Bespoke Atelier, Interactive Spirit of Ecstasy, Pinnacle Café, Affinity Partner Display, Virtual Reality Configurators and staging for Bespoke one-of-one motor cars or newly-launched collections.

The product of a multi-million dollar investment from AGMC, the generously appointed facility spans 7,300 sq.ft. and features top-to-bottom vectorized pixel-animation screens on the external windows, visible to passers-by from the road and sidewalk. Befitting a house that always seeks to deliver effortlessness to its patrons, it is the only Boutique in City Walk that will have year-round valet parking for its guests.

The Rolls-Royce Boutique is AGMC’s second Rolls-Royce showroom facility in Dubai, complementing their existing 10,000 sq. ft. flagship showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road which features the world’s most advanced Rolls-Royce Aftersales Centre.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, said, “Dubai is an important part of our brand’s success story, and it has been among the top five markets in the world for Rolls-Royce for three consecutive years, placing it alongside or above other markets with much bigger populations. Our success in Dubai and the rest of the world is borne of an intimate understanding of the lifestyle requirements of the world’s most discerning patrons of luxury. True luxury houses like Rolls-Royce must therefore constantly strive to innovate and inspire.”

He added. “AGMC’s investment is testament to their commitment to delivering truly progressive experiences to Dubai’s most eminent men and women. This extraordinary space will become a social hot-spot that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Rolls-Royce’s Centre of Excellence in Goodwood, England.”

Stathis I. Stathis, Managing Director of AGMC, said, “It’s no secret that Dubai is a city of accomplishments and record-breaking initiatives. From the marvel that is the Burj Khalifa through to winning the bid for Expo 2020, Dubai has proven time and time again it is a place where the impossible becomes possible. Where vision, coupled with hard work and resolve, can lead to achievements that are rightly celebrated and respected around the globe. We are proud to now add the first ever Rolls-Royce Boutique to those achievements.”

The Rolls-Royce Boutique features four distinct areas:

The Inspiration Studio will be the staging point for one-of-a-kind examples of Rolls-Royce Bespoke motor cars. This will serve to inspire patrons by showcasing what is possible when working with the marque’s full Bespoke palette. The space also features an Interactive Spirit of Ecstasy Wall, which uses motion-capture technology to allow visitors to briefly transform themselves into the iconic statuette that embellishes every Rolls-Royce motor car, and an interactive configurator to help customers conceive initial ideas for their own Bespoke vision.

The Bespoke Atelier takes cues from the worlds of fine art, design and high fashion, and is filled with thought-provoking textures, themes and colours, giving customers the opportunity to explore the possibilities that cutting-edge, Bespoke design allows. The displays of paints, marquetry, exotic woods, leathers, piping, tread plates and accessories such as picnic hampers and Gold-plated ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’s have been selected to stimulate discussion and nurture creativity, helping to inspire customers when commissioning their own unique Rolls-Royce motor car. The centerpiece is a stunning piece of original art from Syrian artist Khaled Al Saaei, depicting the Spirit of Ecstasy in Arabic Calligraphy.

The Pinnacle Café is a space for Rolls-Royce customers to relax, meet with friends, or even host business meetings in an exclusive and luxurious atmosphere. Rolls-Royce will invite other luxury brands to display their rarest and most unique items in the Affinity Area, with the displays regularly changing, thus providing further inspiration to visitors and also creating a luxury shopping boutique feel for customers.

The Rolls-Royce Boutique is open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm seven days a week.

Ubud is a very special place, the cultural capital of Bali, the mountain Kingdom is surrounded by rice paddies, monkey filled jungles, and Hindu temples. It has become one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Southeast Asia. While some people just come up to Ubud for a day, then quickly return to the beaches of Kuta, it's best to spend at least a couple of days taking it all in and exploring the culture and arts of Ubud.

Getting to Ubud:

From Bali's main airport Denpasar, it is about two hour drive, while they do have tourist shuttles, you can add up to two hours to your travel time depending on how often it stops. Tickets will set you back about $12 per person, and most shuttles require a minimum of two people.

Renting a scooter is an option for those who see more adventure in their life, the traffic and erratic driving of the locals means you will need to keep focused. You can rent a scooter for about $10 a day for a 150cc Honda or Yamaha. For a few dollars more you can upgrade to larger scooters and motorcycles from companies like Bali Big Bikes.

Hiring a private driver or a taxi is also common, most hotels can call you a legitimate taxi and driver. A trip to Ubud can set you back around $15-$20 depending on the driver and distance.

Staying in Ubud:

Ubud is such a popular destination there are hotels and hostels for nearly any budget. Hostels in the city center offer dormitory and private rooms for as little as $10 a night. In town there is also a wide selection of more traditional hotels which can be had for between $25-$75 a night. If you plan on staying in the city try to be near Monkey Forest Road or Hanoman Road, so you will have walking distance access to restaurants, shopping, and cultural exhibits.

Outside the city center are  wide selection of resorts that can range from $75-$250 a night on average with some elite resorts and villas charging upwards of $500 a night. Also factor in that you will need to have a rental car/scooter, or a driver take if you plan on visiting the city center.

Food in Ubud:

Ubud is known for it's amazing food culture, from the Bebek Bengil to Warung Babi Guling Bu Oka 3 you can try more traditional Balinese dishes. But because Ubud has become such a hot destination for Expats, you can even get very good Mexican, European, and of course other Asian cuisines.

Things to do in Ubud:

Traditional Shows:

There are several different types of performances common to Bali, the Uluwatu Temple fire show is one of the most popular. There are several to choose from around Ubud and most will cost you $5-10 a person for tickets.

Shopping in Ubud:

If you have ever been to Southeast Asia you know that shopping is a major pastime for locals and tourists alike. However, Ubud is a nice break from the megamalls and packed international boutiques of Kuta. The Ubud Market still has an old market feel where you can shop for products made by local artisans.

Visit the Monkey Forest:

Ubud is famous for it's Monkey Forest, it costs about $4 to enter the forest/temple where hundreds of macaque monkey are waiting to greet you. Watch you hats, sunglasses, cameras, phones, jewellery, well just about anything loose as the monkeys love to grab and go. You can purchase bananas to feed them, if you do be prepared to have a monkey climb on you, don't worry they are very tame.

Get Blessed by Holy Water:

Tirta Empul Tampak Siring is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims. Known as the water temple it's waters are said to have healing properties. Note when visiting temples you must wear a sarong if you are wearing shorts. If you have a change of clothes or if you just don't mind being wet you can join the locals and take part in the ritual.

Red Bull Global Rallycross will continue to position itself at the forefront of motorsport technology with the creation of an all-electric vehicle series for the 2018 season. Electric vehicles will be added to Red Bull GRC race weekends as a distinct, standalone series, joining the Supercar and GRC Lites classes in the series’ race program. Red Bull GRC, in conjunction with USAC (United States Auto Club), will serve as the governing body for the new series.
“Red Bull Global Rallycross is pleased to add to our rallycross platform an electric series,” said Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “The 2018 season will be a landmark year for us as we welcome electric vehicles to the grid for the first time. The electric car is one of the hottest topics in the automotive industry, and manufacturers across the globe have recognized its immense potential. We want to embrace this technology by welcoming it into our series as we continue to grow and expand.
“Our current platform is the most enticing in motorsports right now to a young, millennial audience. Our small displacement, high-horsepower, turbocharged engines allow our manufacturers to showcase the performance capabilities of their current millennial-focused offerings, and provide a glimpse into the exciting future of the automotive industry. This electric series will add a new dynamic that will never replace the current formula, but will be an important part of our expansion.”
Having just wrapped up its sixth season, Red Bull GRC has consistently been responsible for major announcements that have accelerated the growth of the sport of rallycross. The Supercar class now features four manufacturer partners: Ford, Subaru, Honda, and Volkswagen. In 2015, Red Bull GRC also became the first racing series to compete on an active United States military installation.
Further details on Red Bull GRC’s upcoming electric class will be released in the coming year. For more information, visit RedBullGRC.com, or follow the series on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @RedBullGRC.
